Benjamin K. winkler
Music Director - Conductor

Maestro Winkler brings over 30 years of international performing experience to his conducting.  He has extensive experience with both instrumental and choral groups, and has conducted in fourteen countries in South and Central America.  In Europe, he has conducted in Germany, France, and the Czech Republic, recording in 2000 with the Moravian Philharmonic.  He has been the Music Director of the Athenaeum Pops Orchestra in Indianapolis, the Westminster Symphony in Denver, and has conducted professionally in five other states.

Since relocating to Utah in 2001, Maestro Winkler has appeared as a guest on the podium for the American Fork Symphony, the Orchestra of Southern Utah in Cedar City, and the Salt Lake Symphonic Winds.  He has a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Utah, where he conducted the University of Utah Chamber Orchestra, and guest-conducted other university ensembles, including the University Symphony and the Philharmonia.  He is currently the Music Director of both the Riverton Metropolitan Orchestra and the newly formed Nebo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Maestro Winkler is also an award-winning composer and arranger.  His compositions have been featured works at recent Composers Guild New Music concerts in Salt Lake City. 

Maestro Winkler studied orchestral conducting with Stan DeRusha, Jorge Mester, and Robert Baldwin, and choral composition with James Mulholland.  Advanced studies in Bulgaria include the International Conducting Workshops, working with Carl St. Clair, Rossen Milanov, and Gustav Meier.  He has been a member of the Composers Guild since 2000, and the Conductors Guild since 1994.

Maestro Winkler and his wife Beth met while living in Indianapolis.  They now reside in Provo, where they share nine children and a rapidly growing collection of grandchildren.
